ALBANY, N.Y. The members of a small European Jewish community were wiped out by the Nazis, but a vital piece of their culture survived the Holocaust.

Now, that artifact — a 100-year-old Torah scroll — is being used by New York college students to piece together the details of the lives of the approximately 50 Jews who lived in Horovice, Czechoslovakia, before World War Two.
