Last month, Pope Benedict XVI put a late German bishop who preached anti-Nazi sermons on the path to sainthood.

While some critics saw the pope’s action as more of a move to cover the Catholic church’s abysmal record of speaking out and protecting our Jewish brothers and sisters during the Holocaust, Pope Benedict stated a different reason.
