Ruth Gruener, 72, of Brooklyn, is reunited with Joanna Zalucka, 82, of Wroclaw, Poland, at JFK International airport in New York on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005. Zalucka and her family hid Gruener during the Holocaust 61 years ago and they have not seen each other since. They were brought together by the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.

NEW YORK Nov 25, 2005 — Sixty-one years ago, Joanna Zalucka hid a young Jewish girl in her bedroom for eight months, keeping the child from the Nazis in their native Poland during the Holocaust. The girl survived, rejoined her parents and moved to Brooklyn in 1953. On Friday, Ruth Gruener, now 72, was reunited with her Polish friend at Kennedy International Airport. Full story.
