In his case, it came from his grandfather, Alexander Taub, a Holocaust survivor born 82 years ago in Hungary.

“He is an enigmatic character, emotionally blocked at times,” says Lipiner, a Stewart Manor resident and an English teacher at Steinway Intermediate School 141 in Long Island City. “That’s the way he deals with life. But he’s also very funny.”
