Representatives from several German political parties recently expressed opposition to a proposed Iranian conference that would feature Holocaust deniers, German news daily Der Spiegel reported Jan. 18. Norman Paech, a parliamentary member of the German Left Party, told Der Spiegel that the planned conference is part of Iran’s ongoing “strategy of provocation.” Werner Hoyer of the Free Democratic Party says a conference featuring Holocaust skeptics would be a “dangerous spark in the powder keg” amid Iran’s current nuclear standoff with the West.
