France’s premier held out hope Monday for a resolution to tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Dominique de Villepin also reiterated France’s condemnation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his “disgraceful” remarks on Israel and the Holocaust.

The ultraconservative Iranian leader drew scorn across Europe last fall for saying that Israel should be “wiped off the map,” and that the Holocaust was a “myth.”
