Holocaust memoir taps into range of emotions

LAWRENCE — For Vera Goodkin, writing “In Sunshine and in Shadow: We Remember Them,” a memoir of her childhood experience in the Holocaust, meant facing a range of emotional ups and downs.

“It was difficult,” said Goodkin. “Some of the memories were very happy ones and others were tinged with sadness and tragedy.”

Much of Goodkin’s memoir is a family history, commemorating the lives of her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
