CBC Arts: German officials pull 'gas chamber' exhibit
Officials in the German town of Pulheim have temporarily suspended the “homemade gas chamber” art installation by a controversial Spanish artist.
The art installation entitled ‘245 Cubic Meters’ by Spanish artist Santiago Sierra features tubes attached to the exhaust pipes of six cars pumping poisonous gas into a former synagogue, turning it into a gas chamber. Visitors had to wear protective masks in order to enter. (Photo: Santiago Sierra/AFP/Getty Images)
The piece 245 Cubic Meters by Santiago Sierra opened in Pulheim Sunday, showcasing a former Jewish synagogue’s conversion into a makeshift gas chamber.
