Temples to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day

Two of the largest Jewish congregations in Orange County are planning Yom Hashoah Holocaust Remembrance Day programs at the same time. On April 24 at 7 p.m., each will begin with the lighting of six candles in memory of the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust.

– At Temple Sinai, 75 Highland Ave. in Middletown, the main speaker will be Howard Mills III, superintendent of the state Insurance Department, a former assemblyman from the 97th District and the Republican nominee for the state Senate in 2004. As head of the Insurance Department, he is a member of the board of directors of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims. He also is a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and is chairman of its Holocaust Commission Task Force.
