Denogean: County Fair’s Holocaust exhibits a first

Tuscon: The Pima County Fair usually boasts that it has something for everyone. This year, it has something expected by no one.
Holocaust memorial exhibits.
The traveling exhibits on display in Old Pueblo Hall from April 21-30 come from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and The Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education. They focus on stories of children, rescuers and female survivors.
Launa Rabago, marketing director for the fair, said getting the exhibits here has been two years in the making.
The fair always includes an educational component, usually related to math or science. When organizers started to talk about history as the educational aspect a couple years ago, they quickly focused on the Holocaust, Rabago said.
The challenge was to persuade those who decide whether to loan out the exhibits that a fair was an appropriate place for raising Holocaust awareness.
