The State of Israel will take time out Monday evening to remember the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, marking the start of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The annual state ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. at Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority.

The hour-long event, which will be broadcast live on television and radio, will be attended by President Moshe Katsav, Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and scores of dignitaries and ambassadors from around the world.
