MYRTLE BEACH – A table full of pistachios and pastries greeting about two dozen older residents at the Temple Emanu-El was a far cry from the meager loaves of bread shown in “The Long Way Home,” a 1997 documentary chronicling concentration camp survivors savagely grabbing provisions from U.S. troops after they liberated the camps.

The synagogue’s buffet wasn’t touched for most of the service Sunday.

The film was shown in conjunction with the temple’s Holocaust Memorial Program, which involved lighting six yahrzeit candles and offering prayers in honor of the estimated 6 million Jews who died in concentration camps.
