For the last several years, local Jews have concluded annual Holocaust remembrance services with a quotation from philosopher George Santayana, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Last night, the event also included a call to action to try to prevent history from repeating itself.

Deborah Topcik called on audience members to sign petitions urging the Bush administration to take stronger action to prevent killings in the Darfur region of Sudan.
