A Schindler’s List survivor spoke to a capacity audience about enduring, coping with and remembering the Holocaust Thursday night in Ohio University’s Baker Center Ballroom as part of Holocaust Memorial Week.

Zev Kedem, visiting from Israel, spoke for nearly two hours about his self-preservation as a child in Nazi territory.

“My intention isn’t to commemorate the achievement of survival,” Kedem said, “but to raise consciousness of reality.”

As a child, Kedem said, he was raised in an affluent Polish family. “Life was good,” he said. “But suddenly mother arrived and said the situation had changed.”
