Marion Blumenthal Lazan was just 10 years old in April 1945 when Russian forces liberated the train bringing her, her family and 2,500 other people from the Nazi concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen, where she’d been for nearly 1 1/2 years, eastward toward the extermination camps.

Now 71, Blumenthal Lazan remembers the experience of being aboard the train for nearly two weeks without food, water, medical supplies or sanitary facilities.
