Wednesday, May 3 2006

KIEV, Ukraine – Babi Yar, where more than 100,000 people were killed during World War Two, hosted a memorial event arranged by the Israeli Embassy in Ukraine. The event involved the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Azriel Chaikin, as well as the Israeli Ambassador in Ukraine and Moldova Mrs. Naomi Ben-Ami, a diplomat representing the German Embassy and leaders of Kiev’s Jewish organizations.

Hundreds of Kiev residents gathered here to commemorate the victims of different nationalities killed and buried in Babi Yar. Children and adults, those who miraculously survived the tragedy of the Holocaust and those who experienced the pain of the Holocaust from the stories of their grandfathers and grandmothers, gathered beside the Menorah in Babi Yar. “The horrors of the Holocaust live within the hearts of all of us. We have to immortalize the memory of every Jew who died during this great tragedyâ€?, said the Israeli Ambassador.
