Art students use dolls to depict Holocaust
By RODNEY CALVER, For the Capital

When middle school art teacher Michelle L’Hommedieu tripped over a box of rag dolls in her classroom, her creative juices started flowing. Why not create a display depicting the historical importance and horror of the Holocaust?

The result is a stunning montage in the lobby of Central Middle School. The presentation is centered on the dolls, each representing an individual incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Ms. L’Hommedieu, who is in her second year as an art teacher at the Edgewater school, explained that the county social studies curriculum does not include world history.
