September 19, 2006 — Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas today
said that Lithuania will restitute property confiscated from Jews during
the Nazi and Soviet occupations, but stressed that not all property will
be returned in kind.

Kirkilas said on Lithuanian radio that “Jews were and are Lithuanian
citizens.”

She said the restitution is an inevitable decision and “we shall search
for solutions.”

Kirkilas said some property will be returned and some of it may be
compensated for with money.
