Holocaust Education Week Begins November 1

The world’s most comprehensive annual Holocaust education program begins on Wednesday, November 1.

Holocaust Education Week, sponsored by UJA Federation’s Holocaust Centre of Toronto, celebrates its 26th anniversary with more than 100 programs in many venues across the GTA.

Opening night – Wednesday, November 1, 7:30 p.m. at Beth Tzedec Congregation (1700 Bathurst Street, Toronto) presents The Holocaust: From the Rule of Law to the Nightmare of Oppression – And Back Again, featuring former Ontario Premier Bob Rae. Mr. Rae will discuss how all Jewish lawyers were disbarred when Hitler came to power in 1933, reducing the entire German legal system to a travesty.

According to Holocaust Centre chair, Lorraine Sandler, this year’s event is, unfortunately, very timely in light of the anti-Israeli sentiment still pervasive in today’s world.

“The recent Hezbollah terrorism perpetrated against Israel, and the vulgar and venomous rhetoric that emanates from Iran is evocative of vitriol heard in 1938. Our antennae are alert,” said Sandler.
