For those of you who were unable to attend Sunday’s Salute to the People of Israel, I wanted to share a few memorable moments. Professor Marilyn Harran, our guest of honor, presented a most meaningful and entertaining slide show of her trip to Israel. She was presented with a shofar on a placque, the inscription reading:
The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates.
The great teacher inspires. To Marilyn J. Harran a great teacher who inspires us all.

We had over 60 students who danced up a storm with survivors. One of Marilyn’s students sang “The Impossible Dream” in her honor. We also had a surprise guest from Israel. His name is Dan Alon and he was one of the 5 Israeli Olympic Team members who survived the Munich Olympics massacre (by jumping out a window.) On Rosh Hashana eve, he flew back to Israel with the bodies of his dead teammates. He has not been able to speak about it for over 34 years.
