Hamilton to participate in International Holocaust Education Week
(Nov 3, 2006)

For the first time in the 26 year history of this international event, Hamilton will participate in International Holocaust Education Week. Three programs on Holocaust related themes will take place in Hamilton during early November.

“Education is the most important tool we have in combating the various forms of intolerance that plague our society,” said Michele Finkelstein, Chair of UJA Federation of Hamilton’s Holocaust Education Committee. “Racism and Anti-Semitism continue to raise their heads in Canada and abroad. In the midst of these difficulties, we believe that our educational efforts can help change the world for the better.”

“We continue to read in our daily papers of atrocities throughout the world in the name of religion and race,” added Leslie Lasky, President of UJA Federation of Hamilton. “We must not ignore the lessons of the past. With renewed resolve, we must strive to eliminate discrimination in our communities. We believe that the educational value of the Holocaust Education Week programs can make a big difference.”
