As they researched their “disappeared” neighbors, some Czech students learned they had Jewish ancestors themselves.
One discovered a great-grandfather’s diary in which he named the relatives awaiting deportation and wrote about restrictions on Jews.
A girl’s grandmother, of Roma ancestry, recalled being hustled out of her home wearing only her nightgown, and being helped by a woman who had other children.
