As Erin Walsh listened to testimonies from Holocaust survivors, none of them hit her quite like Joseph Fenton’s.

Touched by his experience, the Trabuco Hills High School senior entered Chapman University’s eighth annual Holocaust Art & Writing Contest with a piece she created based on his testimony.

Fenton’s testimony is among more than 30 Holocaust survivors’ stories on The “1939” Club’s Web site, and was taped at UCLA in the early 1980s. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Fenton survived the Warsaw ghetto and concentration camps in Auschwitz and Mauthausen.
