A Holocaust survivor who endured seven Nazi concentration camps before being liberated in 1945 will be guest speaker this evening at Gainesville’s annual Yom Hoshoah observance.

Czechoslovakian-born Walter Ziffer will share his perspective and some of his experiences during the Nazi invasion of Europe in his talk, “The Holocaust and God – a Survivor Reflects,” tonight at 7 at Congregation B’nai Israel, 3830 NW 16th Blvd.

Ziffer, 80, has lectured extensively on the subject of the Holocaust. His talk tonight will be part of the local observance of the international Holocaust Remembrance Day. Also in attendance at B’nai Israel will be Sheila Kanter, a Tucson, Ariz., artist well known for her Holocaust-themed oil paintings – eight of which will be on display tonight. Kanter has visited many concentration camps, including Dachau, Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen and Terezinstadt
