NEW BEDFORD — The annual Holocaust Memorial Observance “Yom HaShoah” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29 with a memorial service and candle-lighting ceremony at the Holocaust Memorial Sculpture in Buttonwood Park, followed by a memorial program at 7:30 p.m. at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 145 Brownell Ave.

“Given that a number of people have surfaced who are denying the Holocaust and this is a growing trend around the world, we need to stand firm in confronting these deniers by constantly reminding the world that this tragic event only happened 60 years ago — and we must not forget,” said Wil Herrup, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Bedford.
