(September 9, 2007) — Anna “Angie” Suss-Paull spoke to thousands of students over the past 20 years, always delivering this message from her heart and her experience: Hate is a waste of your time. It doesn’t mean a thing to the people who’ve wronged you, but it will destroy your soul.

Angie Suss-Paull, who died Sept. 3, was a Holocaust survivor, born in Lodz, Poland, in 1922. She was 17 when the Nazi Army occupied Poland. Her middle-class family lost everything and was forced to surrender all their possessions. They endured humiliation upon humiliation; they watched in astonishment as former neighbors turned against Jews. She saw Nazi soldiers enter the Jewish ghetto, kill babies and hang innocent people from street lamps.
