Sep. 14, 2007 (CWNews.com) – On September 13, the German and Polish bishops’ conferences donated almost €1.1 million (about $1.5 million) to the Maximilian Kolbe Foundation, an association established in 1973, two years after the beatification of the Polish martyr, to aid the survivors of Nazi concentration camps.

Since 1973, the foundation has provided housing and offered medical care for around 400 people from Poland, Germany, and the former USSR. The organization has successfully petitioned to have numerous roads across Germany renamed in honor of its patron.
