An El Pasoan who survived the brutalities of concentration camps, lost her siblings and parents during the Holocaust and then battled and overcame cancer died Thursday at age 80.
“She was the strongest lady I knew,” Mathew Bowman, 14, said of his grandmother Olga Bowman in a letter he read aloud to his family. “I knew she had been through so much in her life. From growing up in Europe during the Holocaust, to having two crazy sons, to losing her one true love, her great husband, and then to go through four years of cancer. To have gone through all that and still have as big of a heart as she did (was incredible).”

Family and friends Friday remembered Olga Bowman, one of few Holocaust survivors remaining in El Paso, as someone who inspired them to become better people.
