Gordon Brown has told TJ how he has been “deeply affected” by learning about the Shoah and visiting Yad Vashem.

His highly-personal words came during a wide-ranging interview, the first part of which was exclusively published in this newspaper last week.

Stressing that teaching of the subject is compulsory in secondary schools and pointing to the £1.5m invested in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s programme to take pupils’ to Auschwitz, the Prime Minister said he was committed to youngsters continuing to “so that they come to understand these horrifying events and value the courage of those who stood against them.
