Beloved Brooklyn Rabbi, Holocaust Survivor Dies

BROOKLYN — Thousands of mourners gathered in Brooklyn yesterday to say their good-byes to Talmudic scholar Rabbi Shmuel Berenbaum, a Holocaust survivor who lead a Brooklyn yeshiva for over 50 years, mulitple sources said. Rabbi Berenbaum died from cancer at age 87. His body will be transported to Jerusalem today for burial.
Born in Poland, Berenbaum escaped from his Nazi-occupied country to Shanghai, China during World War II. Later, he emigrated to the U.S., where he led 1,200 people at Mir Yeshiva in Brooklyn.
