Weymouth – Ilona Sole came to the market with her young daughters, Julie and Yvette, but those were not the names on their forged identity papers. They had been living as Christians on the opposite side of Budapest from their old home, but here, in the market, she came face to face with a woman who had worked for her husband, a woman he had fired.

“Jews! Jews!” the woman shrieked.

“My mother grabbed us and ran through the stalls, left and right. It was a miracle no one tried to stop us and we got away,” said Yvette Kaplan last week at the third annual Holocaust memorial service cosponsored by the Weymouth Clergy Association and Congregation Sha’aray Shalom of Hingham.
