“On April 15, 2008, the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) will launch a worldwide appeal to Jewish survivors of the Holocaust and their families to submit previously unpublished or unavailable memoirs to a worldwide electronic collection being established in cooperation with Yad Vashem, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Mémorial de la Shoah/Centre de Documentation Juive Contemporaine, the Jewish Historical Institute, the Holocaust Survivors Memoirs Project, and many other Holocaust organizations in countries on all continents.”

“Appeal for Previously Unpublished or Unavailable Memoirs by Survivors of the Shoah

We appeal to authors, their families, and rights-holders to submit manuscripts. At this time, the main concern is that all previously unpublished or unavailable memoirs be identified and preserved. Documents in this electronic collection will also be made available to appropriate organizations and individuals to assist them in their critical work of research and documentation of the Shoah.

Ways in which memoirs may be made publicly accessible, after appropriate review, are under discussion..

Texts submitted will be examined by historians and other experts who are qualified to judge their appropriateness for inclusion in the collection.

Authors or rights-holders submitting manuscripts to the worldwide electronic collection will be able to access their manuscript and will be entitled to withdraw it at any time and/or to publish it wherever and however they wish.

Authors or rights-holders should submit their manuscripts in electronic form (Microsoft Word) in any language together with a signed author release and summary information concerning the manuscript. If no electronic version can be created, then a typed version can be submitted. Unfortunately handwritten manuscripts cannot be included.”
