LONGMONT, Colo. — A 72-year-old woman who fled Colorado after she was accused of pretending to be a Holocaust survivor to bilk sympathetic neighbors has been found working at a motel in Montana.
Rosemarie Pence claimed to have survived the Dachau concentration camp. Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett said she would be arrested if she returns to Colorado. Pence’s stories were so compelling that local author Jean Messinger wrote a biography about her. A Boulder police officer and his wife allowed Pence to live with them in their Longmont home for much of 2009 until they started questioning her stories.
