Montreal police have sent a bar of swastika-stamped soap that they seized in March from a shopkeeper to a lab in Ontario for analysis. The Montreal police lab isn’t equipped to determine if the soap contains human remains, as shopkeeper Abraham Botines had led would-be purchasers to believe. The soap was confiscated after a complaint by B’nai Brith Canada. Botines, who is Jewish, offered the bar for sale at his curiosity shop which deals in other World War II memorabilia. While there have been persistent rumours since the war that the Nazis produced such soap, Israel’s Holocaust authority, Yad Vashem, has denied it.
