Throughout the first half of the 20th century, hundreds of Jews took an active part in supporting the Zionist dream by investing in what was then Palestine. Following the atrocities of WWII, many of the assets were never claimed. Set up by the State of Israel, The Restitution of Holocaust Victims’ Assets was established in 2006 to provide historical justice to the victims of the Holocaust and reinstate the assets with their legal heirs. The goal of the organization is to reunite these assets with the heirs of the original investors, the rightful owners of these properties. Included in these assets are untouched plots of land and unclaimed bank accounts and shares from the Jewish Colonial Trust (the parent company of the Anglo Palestine Bank which later became Bank Leumi) as well as other Israeli financial institutions. The Restitution of Holocaust Victims’ Assets has compiled lists of these assets with the intention of making the process of returning the belongings to their beneficiaries as easy as possible. There are currently some 60,000 unclaimed assets with the list still expanding. The Company’s website (www.hashava.org.il/eng) contains further information on submitting an application to request restitution of an asset published on the Company’s list. Enter our website or call our toll-free line 1-800-475-1049 to find out if your relatives appear in the list of asset owners.
