Greek Government, Jews slam neo-Nazi ‘Golden Dawn’ Party chief for Holocaust denial

ATHENS, Greece –The Greek government and Jewish community condemned the leader of the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn Party after he denied there were gas chambers or ovens at Nazi death camps.Speaking Sunday in an interview on the private Mega TV network, Golden Dawn head Nikolaos Michaloliakos said gas chambers were lies and claims that 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust was an exaggeration. “There were no ovens. This is a lie. I believe that it is a lie,” said Michaloliakos. “There were no gas chambers either.”His comments drew condemnation from the Greek government. This “constitutes a distortion of history and a fierce insult to the memory of the millions of Holocaust victims,” government spokesman Pentelis Kapsis said Tuesday.”The Greek people have not forgotten that they mourned hundreds of thousands of victims of Nazism, including tens of thousands of Greek Jews,” Kapsis said.

A Neo-Nazi in the GOP: Where’s the Outrage From On High?

By Menachem Rosensaft
Arthur Jones, a neo-Nazi, outspoken anti-Semite and Holocaust denier, wants to be a Republican congressman from the Land of Lincoln. This is neither a joke nor an exaggeration. The 64-year-old Jones, who organizes “family friendly” celebrations of Adolf Hitler’s birthday and maintains that “the Holocaust never happened,” actually is a candidate in this year’s Republican primary in Illinois’s 3rd Congressional District. Jones faces two other opponents in the primary, which means that he could theoretically become the nominee with just 35% of the vote. “As far as I’m concerned, the Holocaust is nothing more than an international extortion racket by the Jews,” Jones said. “It’s the blackest lie in history. Millions of dollars are being made by Jews telling this tale of woe and misfortune in books, movies, plays and TV. “The more survivors, the more lies that are told.”

The Sins Of Pat Buchanan

Special To The Jewish Week
By Menachem Z. Rosensaft, vice president of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Their Descendants.

Better late, even extremely, excruciatingly late, than never.  MSNBC’s decision to oust Patrick Buchanan as its arch-conservative political commentator last week was long overdue.
Some of Buchanan’s erstwhile colleagues at the network are voicing their unhappiness at this development. “Mika [Brzezinski] and I strongly disagree with this outcome,” Joe Scarborough wrote on his Politico blog. Praising Buchanan’s “relentless genialities” and his “deep, even formidable, loyalty,” Chris Matthews told his viewers that “obviously, I’m going to miss his cheerful, fun-loving irascible presence around here.” Before Buchanan is turned into a veritable martyr, a review of his record seems in order.
I first crossed swords with Buchanan in 1987 after I had written a New York Times op-ed in which I called for the deportation of Nazi war criminal Karl Linnas, and said that Buchanan’s “oft-expressed sympathy” for a succession of such Nazi war criminals was a “constitutionally protected perversion.” Sticking to his guns, Buchanan took umbrage in a Letter to the Editor at what he considered a “nasty personal slur” and “flippant libelous insult.” Buchanan likened another Nazi war criminal to Jesus Christ. When John Demjanjuk was about to be deported to Germany, where he would eventually be tried and convicted for his role in the murder of 28,000 Jews at the Sobibor death camp, Buchanan in his syndicated column of April 17, 2009, not only called Demjanjuk an “American Dreyfus” and “the sacrificial lamb whose blood washes away the stain of Germany’s sins,” but he wrote that the “spirit” behind the U.S. Justice Department’s efforts to bring Demjanjuk to justice is “the same satanic brew of hate and revenge that drove another innocent Man up Calvary that first Good Friday 2,000 years ago.”

Radical party spokesman says Jews ‘colonizing’ Hungary

BERLIN – A spokesman for the anti-Jewish and pro-Iranian Jobbik political party in Hungary cast doubt last week on the veracity of the Holocaust in Hungary, compared Israel with Nazi Germany, and said Jews are invading Hungary. Marton Gyongyosi, the foreign affairs spokesman of Jobbik, said it is questionable whether 400,000 Hungarian Jews were murdered or deported during the Holocaust. Gyongyosi added that the Jewish state policies toward the Palestinians amounted to a “Nazi system.”

Obama pledges to combat denial on Holocaust commemoration day

WASHINGTON DC —  President Barack Obama pledged to combat Holocaust denial in a message marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In his message, Obama said the United States would “pledge to speak truth to those who deny the Holocaust.”  “As we celebrate the strength and resilience of survivors, we pledge to stand strong against all those who would commit atrocities, against the resurgence of anti-Semitism, and against hatred in all its forms,” he said.

Writing Jews Out of History: The Sounds of Silence

Last Friday was Holocaust Remembrance Day. A British associate of mine sent me the link to Archbishop Rowan Williams’ message, which was distributed to honor that occasion. Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is Primate of All England and spokesperson for the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes the Episcopal Church. He is a man of extraordinary good will and an advocate for religious diversity. And yet, he managed to get through almost his entire speech without mentioning the word “Jew.” This is astounding! How does one commemorate the Holocaust and fail to mention the major group that was singled out for obliteration?

Russia row over Nazi massacre site in Rostov-on-Don

A row has erupted in Russia over the replacement of a Holocaust memorial plaque in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don which named Jews as victims. In August 1942 Nazi German troops murdered at least 27,000 people at Zmiyevskaya Balka, regarded as the worst Holocaust atrocity in Russia. More than half the victims were Jews. A new plaque does not mention Jews, but “peaceful citizens of Rostov-on-Don and Soviet prisoners-of-war”.
