New York Daily News: Holocaust denier David Irving to take message to New York City

Notorious Holocaust denier David Irving has added New York to the list of cities where he plans to spew his noxious notions about what the Nazis did to the Jews.

“In the fall, I’ll be in the New York area,” said Irving, when reached on his cell phone Friday. “I won’t go into specifics.”

That’s probably because Irving, who once claimed that Adolf Hitler knew nothing about the slaughter of 6 million Jews, is not likely to get a warm reception.

“Let’s put it this way, if he comes to New York, he will be confronted by truth and justice,” said Elan Steinberg, vice president of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants. “That’s how you deal with hate and provocation.”

A British professor who recently served a year in an Austrian jail for violating that country’s law about denying the Holocaust, Irving has quietly been criss-crossing the country and speaking to small groups.

Irving, 71, was in Chicago and preparing to give a lecture claiming that the number of Jews who went to the gas chambers is overblown when he was tracked down by a Daily News reporter.

The author of nearly 30 books, Irving has contended that most of the Jews, Poles and others who died in the German concentration camps were killed by diseases such as typhus.

The Baltic nations have embarked on a state-financed international initiative which seeks to cover up their role in the Holocaust by falsely equating Nazism with Communism, the founder of the Yiddish program at Vilnius University said this week.

“There is a state-sponsored genocide industry at work which seeks to mitigate the Holocaust and replace it with a model of two equal genocides,” said Professor Dovid Katz in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

The remarks came amid a recent strain in relations between Israel and Lithuania over the latter’s investigations of Jewish Holocaust survivors, including a former Yad Vashem chairman, over their wartime activities as partisans.

The fatal shooting at Washington’s U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum two weeks ago is a grim reminder that white supremacists and Holocaust deniers are dangerous fanatics — domestic terrorists, if you will. The assailant James von Brunn’s hatred for Jews and African-Americans was fueled by the vitriol he spewed out on his Web site and that he absorbed from similar internet sources. “The Holocaust is a lie,” he wrote in a note found in his car after the attack. “Obama was created by Jews.”

I do not know whether Patrick J. Buchanan’s official Web site was one of von Brunn’s regular haunts, but it easily could have been.

Buchanan is a former senior White House official in the Nixon and Reagan administrations, erstwhile arch-conservative candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, and now a highly paid political commentator on MSNBC. He is also a patron of Holocaust deniers.
